I am serving as Research Scientist at the Department of Psychiatry, Jacob school of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, SUNY University at Buffalo. I had been working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosciences, COMSATS University Islamabad, Pakistan from 10/08/2015 till present. My job duties included. Delivering lectures to the university students on different subjects of biological sciences e.g. Protein Engineering Cell Biology, Enzymology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Health, Biotechnology, Nano biotechnology, Introduction to Molecular Biology and other relevant semester courses. Making course materials e.g. assignments, Quizzes, group’s assignments, projects, exams and applying grading policy according to the university policy for students. Encourage students to participate in discussion class regarding their course difficulties and give them proper direction to solve their difficulties. Designing, and conducting laboratory experiments for Graduate and undergraduate students as part of Molecular genetics. Attending faculty members meetings to discuss course related material as well as departmental and administration issues. Conducting workshops and seminars to increase student’s knowledge and information about the course. Rendering services to the university as the member of committee and the member of faculty. Preparing handouts, information materials, regarding respective subjects for the students for their ease. Checking and assessing students work on projects, exam papers, assignments. Supervising final year projects related to Human Genetics with other faculty members as a panel and helping students regarding their projects related problems. To design and execute experiments, collect and analyze experimental data and publish in different peer reviewed international Scientific Journals. With a PhD in Biosciences and specialization in Human Neurogenetics, my research was mainly focused on identifying the underlying genetic mechanism of different genetic disorders such as Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum, Epilepsy and skin disorders including Psoriasis. As Assistant Professor. I was also working on a project as co-PI “Identifying Autosomal Recessive Genes for Intellectual Disability” grant number PJT-156402 Funded by Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Canada. I also worked on a project entitled “Genetic analysis of Parkinson, Alzheimer and Dementia in Pakistani families” funded by COMSATS University Islamabad Research Grant Program (CRGP). I successfully completed a research project entitled “Screening of candidate genes of different pathways in Autistic patients from Pakistani population" funded by HEC Pakistan. I had already supervised several PhD, MS students and BS students. I have published my findings in peer reviewed international impact factor journals in Q1 ranking. My research is focused primarily on finding the underlying genetic cause of neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders. These kinds of genetic studies play a crucial role in advancing psychiatry research and contributing to the development of precision medicine in mental health. My research work and identifications can help to learn more about the genetic makeup of individuals with psychiatric conditions, researchers can pinpoint variations that may increase susceptibility to these disorders. Discoveries and results of my work can tell how specific genes function in relation to mental health and allow researchers to understand the molecular pathways involved in conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression. I also can highlight the role of personalized Precision medicine which is a treatment to individuals based on their unique genetic profiles. My research on different brain phenotypes can lead to the development of risk prediction models which can enhance the chances to predict genetic predisposition to certain mental health conditions, this can allow for early intervention and preventive measures to reduce the risk of developing a psychiatric disorder. My research can play a crucial role in biomarkers discovery and thus increasing the prognosis of the patients with mental conditions. Biomarkers can be used for early detection, monitoring treatment response, and assessing disease progression. My research work can help in guiding affected individuals with a family history of psychiatric disorders, genetic counseling can provide information about potential risks and inform decision-making regarding family planning and lifestyle choices. In summary, Human molecular genetic studies in psychiatry research are instrumental in unraveling the complex genetic factors contributing to mental health disorders. This knowledge can not only enhance our understanding of the biological basis of psychiatric conditions but also paves the way for more personalized and effective approaches to diagnosis and treatment in precision medicine., Biopharmaceuticals
