I am interested in a position on the corporate level that requires expertise in memory care, programming(engagement), staff education, program creation, and leadership.
I have spent my professional life developing a unique pallet of skills that makes me a strong candidate for this position. I spent 10 years in education where I developed expertise in instructing, motivating, encouraging, and inspiration over 2000 students under my direction. Then I had a life changing moment in 2008. I was asked to sing bedside for a family friend whose mother who had late-stage Alzheimer’s, was nonverbal, and actively transitioning. We sang familiar hymns, and the resident began mouthing the lyrics. The music went on for 30 minutes and provided the family a beautiful moment of connection on their mother’s last day on earth. It was an honor to be a part of the experience! At that point I decided to pursue my Masters of Music Therapy with a concentration in dementia and hospice.
Since 2008, I have spent dedicated time becoming an expert in dementia related programming. I spent the past few years developing a program called “Forte!” that uses research-based music techniques for cognitive stimulation. My intention it to continue to cultivate my skills on a larger scale and create dementia related programming that I can implement nationally.
During my tenure in Atlanta, I become one of the state educators for the Georgia Activity Certification Program and presented at conferences and communities across the state. This year I was selected by LCB Senior Living to be a company NIDE (National Institute of Dementia Educators) proctor. I am NIDE certified to train our entire company with the NIDE credential. It is wonderful to see associates from all departments learn and become empathic towards our residents with memory issues.
